Nanomaterial Characterization Subcommittee

This subcommittee focuses on:

  1. Techniques for the characterization of microscale and nanoscale cellulose materials, specifically microfibrillated cellulose (MFC), cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs), cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs), and microcrystalline cellulose (MCC), including new methods as well as improvements on existing methods.
  2. Metrology, with regards to techniques, data interpretation and statistics.
  3. Critical process fundamentals, including cellulose structure and kinetics and mechanisms of microscale and nanoscale cellulose material production. New methods for producing microscale and nanoscale cellulose materials at the lab scale will also be examined, with critical examination of the challenges of scaling up.

Committee Leadership:

Chair: Junyoung Zhu, US Forest Products Lab

Vice-chair: Tiffany Abitbol, EPFL
