Workshop on Cellulose Nanofibril Particle Size Measurement:
Setting Priorities in Standard Development
14 -15 September, 2021
8:00am - 12:00pm EDT
To provide a framework for the characterization of the morphology of cellulose nanofibrils (CNF), this 2-day workshop focused on particle size measurement provides detail on the capabilities of various techniques that are used to measure CNF particle size. Measurement challenges for two distinct CNF types, individual and “entangled” CNFs, will be compared and contrasted, while the effectiveness of given measurement techniques and their feasibility in industry vs. research will be deliberated.
Day 1 activities: Expert speakers will share their insights into best practices for CNF particle size measurement using various techniques.
Day 2 activities: Interactive discussions will be held using the SWOT methodology (i.e., Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) to brainstorm and outline approaches for: improved measurement and reporting of CNF particle size, important CNF features to characterize for a given application, and priority setting in standards development.
